We are a team, a crew, a family of 26 collaborators with mixed needs and abilities. No matter how you describe it or look at it, we are together. We are the future. On a day-to-day basis, we are learning lifelong skills of patience, tolerance, and acceptance of one another. Learning takes time, but we will reap the rewards of learning, growing, and playing together. Our determination of teamwork will make the dream work! My students' academic capabilities range from on-grade level to below in all content areas. We are a small public school with grades K-5 composed of mixed income and backgrounds.
Make a difference, make our day, make our future.
I have been teaching amazing, vibrant and remarkable third graders for quite some time. It never fails - year after year they enter the classroom ready and rip-roaring to go. This exuberance wears off onto me. I need to be able to take my learners into the next generation of learning. Change is inevitable, and instilling a love and need for education and learning is essential. It is something that I am on board with. Are you?
My Project
Carpe Diem is the Latin phrase for "Seize the Day". Well..."Carpet Diem" in third grade speak means to help my students "Seize the Learning Opportunity" by providing a carpet. Having a carpet would provide opportunities for students to collaborate in small groups to "talk math" and solve the problem of the day, provide a place to gather for math groups, partner read, or sprawl out for science or journal writing.
"Seize the Day" for endless learning opportunities!
The future of education requires us to learn beyond sitting at a desk or working alone. Bare floors no more for this classroom of opportunists.
