Help me give my students carnival items to help engage them in financial literacy lessons.
My kiddos are one of a kind! I like to think that my classroom is one of a kind as well! We are a school of 600 kids in a rural area in Wisconsin and 18 of those kids get to spend their days with me. My students are the reason I wake up in the morning to go to work and the reason I stay up late at night trying to find the next "big" thing. My job is to help them have positive learning experiences. I love the expressions on their faces when they learn something new! I look forward to working with my little students every day and hopefully helping them become little men and women that will make a positive impact on our world.
Financial literacy needs to be taught in real-world situations to make it memorable for students. Wisconsin has academic standards on personal financial literacy and we are required to teach financial literacy lessons throughout the year. To teach these standards, it is imperative that I create an engaging environment that is relevant to the kids. What better way to teach them the value of money, the need to save, and to be financially responsible than to create classroom transformations where these skills can be used! I would like to be able to create a room transformation that will encourage my students to use their financial literacy skills. This room transformation will be combined with other curricular areas to allow for a rigorous curriculum to be taught. This spring, the students will earn money and spend it at our carnival. Students will earn money throughout the week for doing tasks. We will discuss the need to save their money. On the final day of the week, students will enter our classroom carnival and will get to spend their money to play games, earn prizes, and purchase little trinkets. The items I have asked for including the photo backdrops and games as well as the red noses will help create a carnival setting in my room and help set the stage. What a fun, easy way to learn absolutely essential financial literacy skills!
