My Students

I have some very enthusiastic students in my Kindergarten and 1st Grade music classrooms.

My students love to sing, play instruments, dance and play music games.

My students have been working on our music curriculum all year. The Kindergarten students can pat, clap, walk and play percussion instruments to the steady beat. They can identify music that is High & Low, Fast & Slow and can show the rhythm of the words they sing. My 1st Graders are able to read and identify quarter note, two eighth notes and quarter rest. They can also sing sol and mi from hand signs as well as from the music staff.

My Project

Most of my students have never attended a live musical performance. This concert will give these children the opportunity to see real performers play instruments from the orchestra and hear a classical performance in a traditional music hall.

The students from MELA School will be introduced to "Carnival of the Animals", a grand zoological fantasy’ written by the French composer, Camille Saint-Saëns, with the message that people (and especially musicians) really shouldn’t take themselves too seriously.

Carnival of the Animals is a wonderfully-composed program music. Program music is music that tells a story, or is associated specifically with something outside the music (a painting, character or event).
