Mrs. Walsh from Youngstown OH is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 2 Chromebooks in our classroom, for the uses of Real World Applications like Creating Resumes, Typing Emails, Career Research and Job applications.

I begin class with my 7th and 8th grade students, making relevant connections about their education to real life applications. I teach in a career-oriented school, so keeping up with technology is important! My biggest challenge is only having 3 desktop computers while servicing 24 students.
My students are inner city kids, trying to figure out who they are and navigate through life with the little experiences they have had.
The one thing that has proven to hold their attention is technology and how their education is relevant to their future adult lives. They are spontaneous, silly, kindhearted and a little rambunctious, but when I use technology, I am able to command their attention. My school is in the city of a very depressed town since the steel mills closed many years ago. Generational poverty, joblessness and drug use are prominent, but my students are in school and their parents are supportive!
I would use the 2 Chromebooks to sit beside the 3 desktop computers, along with my own personal Chromebook from home, giving me 6 to use. Students in my class rotate from station to station - 4 stations for 15 minutes at each station. 6 separate devices is what is needed for all of my students to properly access the Internet and create files in order to do career research, practice filling out job applications, creating resumes, emailing and attaching files. I want my students to practice these skills now, so that in a few years when they are 16, they will feel confident enough to use the technology for more than just games.
I currently have only 3 desktop computers (and my personal Chromebook) in a room of 24 teenagers.
This just isn't enough to properly service them and increase their knowledge about the real world and the plethora of uses for their futures. Many of my students don't even have enough food to eat, let alone a computer. Having these resources in my room will provide them with experience, knowledge of the real world and the proper skills for today's society.
