My students need access to ever-changing technology. The whiteboard will replace chalk. The iPad mini will help explore apps and web 2.0 tools and books are powerful tools.
In a small school district, technology is lacking. My students need to learn about the changes, as they plan to major/minor in business, but we are often put last on the list for supplies, as they are very expensive.
In rural Iowa, technology isn't always the key-unless it's farm technology.
My students want to create, explore, and enhance their learning with digital media. They are innovative, quirky, and smart! I don't want to hinder their creativity, but rather let them soar and become the next app developer or Steve Jobs.
My Project
My room has a blue chalkboard. It is hard for students to see and we often do not use it, as the chalk breaks and it's very outdated. In a technology class, it's heartbreaking to see chalk. The rolling whiteboard will be used to enhance student comprehension and increase student participation. They will be much more willing to write on that board than our current chalkboard.
An iPad mini will open so many doors. We are not able to afford many Mac products in our district, but letting students use this tool to create videos, blogs, and use other apps will open their eyes to many career avenues they may have missed. I hope to share the creative digital world and inspire the next generation of leaders.
Finally, personal finance is a struggle, even for adults. My students are very hard workers, but often poor money managers. These books will serve as reference materials to help manage their finances and build personal spending plans. We need students to be excellent money managers.
Our project is very near to my heart.
One new piece of technology can open hundreds of doors for my students. In their rural setting, they are often looked down upon. I want to empower my students, by giving them knowledge and tools to succeed on their post-secondary educational journeys.
