I teach at a Title 1, pre-k through 2nd-grade school in inner-city Ohio where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of the students are living at or below the poverty line.
I am a special education teacher.
I have 15 children on my caseload where seven of these children are in pre-school, two are in kindergarten, five are first grade, and one is in second grade. All of their needs vary depending on the child. Some of the children have needs with managing their own behaviors to use self control and/or understand their feelings as well as needing additional positive behavior plans. Others still need to learn all of the letters in the alphabet, their sounds, and using those sounds to read words. Some need to learn ways to communicate their thoughts.
They all have a different learning style. They need to have color in anything they are using, visuals, durable long lasting materials, and a more hands on approach with their learning. This includes having physical materials they can use and manipulate in front of them.
My Project
I am seeking cardstock to allow for the creation of colorful, durable, hands-on materials for the children to use within their learning. It will also give the opportunity to create any needed additional positive behavior plans for the children with behavior needs. The cardstock will also allow for durable materials for the students that can be used over the years and to make durable books to send home with the students to read at home.
I want the children to enjoy learning and feel successful in their learning and with the ability to create the colorful hands-on activities, it will allow the children to have that feeling!
