My students need a class set (30) of cardio drumming equipment, including drum sticks, balls, and buckets!
This project expired on December 22, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
This school has a very neighborhood-feel in an urban area. We are a K-8, and the middle schoolers are truly great with the elementary students. We run an alternative school program and new experiences are always a wonderful addition to our program.
Because we run an alternative program, we are a 'choice school' and students from all over the city can choose to attend.
We have a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. We also have a strong LGBTQ community.
They are the most accepting group of students I have worked with. All students are welcome and all experiences are looked at as a benefit and they get truly excited for them!
I had the pleasure of experiencing a cardio drumming session last year at a national physical education conference. This is a really wonderful, low stress way of incorporating rhythm and dance into physical education! Not to mention the cardio involved!
I have no doubt this will be a really exciting unit for my middle school students, as well as the elementary students I share equipment with!
Beyond the cardio and rhythm benefits, there is a level of ownership that the students will take. Some of the lessons for this unit have students coming up with their own drum routines in small groups!
