Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from a diverse community in southwest Michigan. Many of my students face much adversity before they even get to school. However, they are very determined and prideful. My students are highly engaged in social issues and are eager to learn about different cultures.

These students allow me to grow and develop daily as an educator.

I truly cherish the relationships I am able to bridge with my students. My students constantly keep my smiling and make my job enjoyable every day.

My Project

I teach social studies and we do a lot of writing about historical events and current event issues. Having a writer's notebook will allow my students to document their ideas and to capture their development in writing throughout the year. Having notebooks will also create organization for my students.

Notebooks may seem like a very simple tool, but they can be a lasting student artifact.

Writing notebooks will allow my students to participate in the writing process by reflecting on main concepts, expressing their ideas, proof-reading, and with editing. The notebooks for my students will used frequently and will encourage them to be life-long writers.
