Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Language Arts to 11th-grade students. I teach all levels from the intensive to the AP students at a 6-12 school that is nestled among warehouses.

My students are hardworking, spirited and highly motivated; however, they do face many obstacles.

For example, this is a Title I school where over 80% of my students are underprivileged and receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of these students are also facing language barriers since they are non-native English speakers who come from Hispanic backgrounds. Over 90% of our school population is composed of Hispanic students.

My Project

As we know, technology has overtaken our lives and helped us evolve. My students are constantly engaged in some type of technology whether it be social media or using these resources to complete certain assignments. In my classes, students are often asked to create projects that reference certain text we read or instead of writing a summary report, I often have my students illustrate their thoughts and interpretations of our readings.

I would love to use a camera to capture my students' work to display in our school, but also use our classroom social media to post their work so other students can also see their accomplishments.

By posting their work, they get the opportunity to showoff their hard work and have others acknowledge their efforts!
