Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love my students. I am fortunate to teach 7th and 8th grade art at this wonderful school. My students come from meager backgrounds, many receive free breakfast and lunch at school. Several students are already working jobs with their parents to help make ends meet. These kids know hard work and they do work hard.
Art allows my students to explore their creative side.
I love to watch them develop ideas and see those ideas come to life in their artwork. This class is one of the few where the students can work, talk with friends and express themselves through lines and colors.
My Project
The materials I am requesting are for our students to create more collaborative art projects like the tiger featured in the photo. The students will use the paper to draw a segment of a larger picture that will then be traced with the Sharpie pens and colored with the colored pencils. The blender pens and blending stumps will help me teach blending techniques. This is a project that crosses both grade levels, between 7th and 8th grades.
The tiger project is designed to build our classroom relationships so the students can see how we can work together to create something beautiful and meaningful for our school.
Our school mascot is a tiger and we use ROAR (Respect, Organization, Achieving Success, and Responsibility) to remind our students how they can reach their goals. Our tiger art is meant to reflect our ROAR expectations and our unified school spirit.
