Our school is the only public school in the nation that is also a ski academy. We are a public 5th-12th grade school within Eagle County School District that strives to help students become successful both in the classroom and on the ski hill.
The goal of VSSA is to challenge its student-athletes with a rigorous academic curriculum while supporting a world-class training and competition schedule.
Since every VSSA student is a full-time athlete, every aspect of the school, including academics, scheduling, and academic support infrastructure, is structured to accommodate the needs of the full-time student-athlete. Our 5th grade class will be self-contained for the first time this year and will contain 16 wonderful students.
Our 5th grade students have the opportunity to collaborate for a special photography class with our 9th graders. The 9th graders have been working with DSLR cameras for the past semester and are now going to teach the 5th grade students how to take amazing pictures. This is a wonderful opportunity for collaboration and connection between grade levels as our 9th graders act as the teachers/mentors for the 5th graders.
Our 5th graders need a more user-friendly beginner camera, but one that still has similar settings to a big fancy DSLR.
The 5th graders will be brand new to photography and need a camera that is a bit simpler to operate. Once the 5th graders are comfortable adjusting the settings on a camera like this, they will then be able to use the 9th graders DSLR cameras!
