My Students

Our small classroom would benefit greatly with rich resources and essentials to help them succeed. For many students, this is their first year of formal education and for others, this is their first year in the country learning a new language and culture.

Our school resides in an urban neighborhood with rich diversity in ethnicities and home to many new immigrants.

Located in District 24, it is a densely populated area in Queens and overcrowding persists despite several schools opening in recent years.

My Project

My students are early learners, many of which are English language learner. They rely on visuals to help acquire language, vocabulary, and knowledge. By providing visuals, students without the language or vocabulary can also participate and learn.

Engaging early learners requires many hands-on experiences and manipulation of materials, which requires protection and durability by laminating work or visuals.

Students are also able to continue to refer to the photos or visuals as often as needed.

Photos are also a great way to provide children with affirmation, celebrate their successes and create a warm classroom community by bridging their home and neighborhood environment into the classroom.
