Working with young seven and eight year old children, it is essential to motivate them and encourage them in their learning. They are very interested in so many things and often find small treasures (rocks, bugs, petals, flowers etc.) and run excitedly into the classroom. These special things are perfect for the children to learn about, write about and share. Being able to photograph and print a picture to remember this special event is a wonderful way to promote learning. It will also create many special memories. Having a printer will enable me to create instant photo images for use in many areas of the curriculum. (I will use my own camera.) Creating instant photographs will really motivate the children in their writing. They will be eager to label and write about their activities, and in turn the writing and photographs can be displayed and made into books for the other children to read. For example, as we work in our school garden these photographs will encourage writing and reading in science. Photographs can be taken of the bugs and rocks they find, the birds feeding on our bird feeder, and the seeds we plant. A record can be kept of the growing plants. Field trips and special assemblies can also be photographed and printed and be ready for written work. The books we make can become a permanent record of our learning and can be used in the classroom and also for others in the school library. In this way reading will be fun and the children will be highly motivated. Materials needed include a photo printer, a print cartridge, and photo paper.
