Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher. My students have different challenges ranging from socializing, making eye contact, or carrying a conversation. Others are unable to communicate their thoughts or may have repetitive behaviors when presented in a unfamiliar situation such as echolalia.
It's not how fast my students get there but how they get there and know they will get there at their own pace and their own way .
Our school community, staff and students, contribute to the success of my students by contributing time to mentor and interact with them. Staff and students go to our class throughout the day to read, converse or play games. As my students become comfortable with others, they start progressing in making eye contact and carrying a conversation within the safe environment created inside the classroom. As a teacher, I would like for my student to have learning experiences outside the classroom to prepare them for the real world.
My Project
We are a Title 1 school and my students are in a special education class. My students have a thirst for knowledge When students are presented with life experience where they are able to make connections they are able to enhance that knowledge and delight it towards natural science.
Capturing the student's experience as they roam through the museum exhibits by participating in a knowledge scavenge hunt.
Students will learn vocabulary and information based on the Texas Essential and Knowledge Skills at their comprehension levels. They will explore different exhibit halls in where teachers will prompt students to make prior connections and capture their amazement with an instant camera to take home and share with family. This field trip will not only enhance my students academic knowledge but will also help them with their social skills .
