Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. This year especially I know that they are going through so much more that is completely out of their control. Having experienced hurricane Harvey many of them are still out of their homes.
I want my students to have a camera which they can use to capture things within the environment.
We often use Stem scopes and YouTube to show changes in the environment to our students and while they are very helpful, its not the students work. I would like to give my students the opportunity to learn to use a camera and show them how to upload pictures and even print them so they can use them while learning.
My Project
My students will use a camera to take pictures of their environment and use them to write about what they have learned and observed when they are comparing them.
Many students have not experienced using an actual camera before and rely solely on a parents phone camera as a means of photography.
I would like to give them the opportunity to experience hands-on how to use a camera and how to upload pictures onto a computer to later use them in a slide show or to print out for projects. I believe they would benefit from this year round while using the camera on the subject area being taught. Not only will they be excited but also motivated to learn about something new and eager to explore new things. How exciting to use their own pictures in an observation.
