My students need another camera for my digital photography class of 35 in which we have 3 cameras. A 4th would greatly expand our photo taking capabilities on campus.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In our ever expanding digital world my students need to expand their knowledge of digital photography beyond cell phone cameras and at the same time document their education, school and community through photography.
My students are primarily from new immigrant families living in a California inner city community.
They are like any other American student with contemporary interests in our highly digital world. One big difference though is that most are bilingual and many come from homes in which Spanish is their first language.
My digital photography class is an elective primarily for senior students.
Many of my students, much like their generation, are quite computer savvy and crave knowledge that can expand their digital understanding in photograph and photo editing.
My Project
Currently, I have 2 Sony SLR cameras and 1 Cannon "point & shoot" camera for a class of 35 students. So I have 10 groups of 3 to 4 students that take turns taking the cameras out for the various photo assignments that are given. By adding another camera I can broaden this capacity 25% making our situation much better for my students.
I have also chosen a new "mirror less" model of camera in between the "point & shoot" and SLR models. This alone will spur on lessons about these new models of cameras being made available to the public. So there are several benefits beyond just a new camera.
This new camera will expand my classes photo taking capacity by 25%!
In addition, it represents a whole new category of camera that will bring new and current knowledge to my students that they would have to obtain on their own.
Last but not least, it is important for my students to understand the concept of giving and know that there are many people out in the World that care about them.
