My students need a digital camera with a protection plan, a case, and memory card for use in their engineering classes to record presentations and to take high quality pictures for their digital portfolios.
Every semester I explain why our students need to be prepared for the 21st century workplace. They must learn to use tools that will be used in a real world setting. This project will help put some of those tools in their hands while also helping them document their work in a digital format.
My students are part of an accelerated, engineering program.
These students range from 14-18, 80% male and 20% female, and often fill the top 20 spots in their class rank, with the remaining falling in the top 50. They work very hard at creating unique projects and presentations which are often put on display for business partners, community organizations, and county officials. They also participate in STEM based clubs and extra-curricular programs, such as app design teams, robotics teams, and environmental challenge clubs.
My Project
My students need a digital camera with a protection plan, a case, and memory card. Currently, all of my students use either my cell phone or their own cell phones, as we no longer have a working digital camera to take pictures and videos of their work, which includes, demonstrations, projects, and presentations. They will learn to use this camera to provide high quality photos they can then include in their own digital portfolios. Many of the students will use this camera to film presentations for digital entries in competitions. Others will use it to take pictures of the design process for creating their robot and include these images in a portfolio used during the local and state competitions. All of the students will use this camera to document their instant challenge designs and testing.
Funding this project will help students feel good about displaying their work and creating portfolios, which are vital parts of my curriculum.
They will be able to develop web albums used to display their work for their families, friends, and community members. In the end, they will be able to create stronger compositions of their work and learn how to better implement the elements and principles of design. Funding will help improve the way we show-off our students' abilities.
