Ms. Jones from Houston TX is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need writing tools to capture their ideas, organize their thoughts and to write more using technology.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

What makes my students special? Their ability to persevere despite the many challenges and setbacks they face at such a young age. The beginning of the school year started two weeks late for my students due to Hurricane Harvey. Many of them were displaced in shelters and lost everything within their abodes! So when our doors opened, they were just happy to get some type of normalcy despite a chaotic circumstance.
What's more is that many of my all-stars come from a community that is economically disadvantaged.
They reside in homes where their parents work two and three jobs just to afford shelter and food for the family. Many have parents that are absentee and reside with extended family; others have parents that they have not seen in years.
Coupled with all of this, last year many lost their teacher for 75% of the school year. So in addition with coming from a home where it is difficult for parents to lend the assistance needed to guide their child's education, they missed out on vital instruction during the school year in their teacher's absence.
Nonetheless, they arrived September 12th ready for us to transform their lives for the better!
Hemingway once voiced, "My aim is to put down on paper what I see and what I feel in the best and simplest ways." His sentiment is exactly the goal for my All Stars' writing skills; my students need the opportunity to grapple with their emotions and tinker with their creativity via the writing process.
Ghandi believed that, "A man is but a product of his thoughts; what he thinks, he becomes!" This notion is why I am requesting a class set of LCD Writing Tablets and additional ink for our published work.
The writing tablets will allow students to scribble journal notes and confer with classmates during the drafting, editing and revising portions of the writing process. For this project, my intent is for my students to become a product of the positive thoughts they have about themselves and others; I would like for them to have a new way of expressing and sharing their thoughts with their peers.
