My students are in high school English classes and Key Club, a community service organization. I want a camera for them to be able to take higher quality photos and to make better videos.
They attend a high poverty school and many of them do not have access to this type of technology at home.
My students could make book trailers, contest videos to promote joining their club, and take better photos to promote their club and to enter in contests.
My Project
My classroom and club does not have a camera to use for class or club projects. I want to be able to assign video and photo projects while being able to provide the students with a quality tool to capture the requirements. Some students use their phones, but when the project needs to be large for a contest, they can not produce the resolution needed to be competitive. Phone and Chromebook cameras can not compete with a quality camera.
The camera and other tools will allow students to explore the world of photography and create great school/club projects that will be competitive with other schools.
One way my students will use the camera is to take high resolution photos for their Key Club contests. They participate in a scrapbook, poster, and video contest. The photos that they used this year were all taken by a phone; this caused their photos to be grainy and decreased the quality of the end product. They put together the scrapbook, and entered the video contest as well, but the photos were grainy. The photos could not be made large enough to enter the poster contest.
In my classroom, my students will use the camera to make vocabulary videos. They will choose an ACT word and create visual and verbal clues to help their classmates internalize the word and its definition.
I will use the camera to document my students' educational journey.
