Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This year I will be teaching Middle School Cross Categorical Special Education. Most of my students either have a learning disability or autism. They come from low income or single parent households. In addition, 4% of students in my school are ESOL, and we are projected to increase enrollment by 100 students this year.

In our school of 450 students, they speak a total of 17 different languages.

They also come from a variety of different backgrounds. Students come from all over the city to attend our school. Our school is a Midwest urban middle school, where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

My Project

In my classroom, my students have a variety of special needs and they must keep up with the latest advancements in technology in education to spark an interest in reading, math, and science. Many of my student struggle to work independently and need the support of an adult or visual aids. Having a document camera in my class will allow me to project assignments on a larger screen format so my students can get the support from a teacher while also building their independent work habits. The use of a document camera will also produce more class discussions, interactions, and maintain students' attention in learning!
