Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Think about all those kids who are reading books they hate. My students love to read! The problem is that when they go to the library, all of their favorite books are checked out. My students need books they want to read and love. Please help my students become better readers, thank you.
Our students are children that, who for the most part have troubled lives.
As of last year, 96.6% of our students came from low income households. They struggle to make meaningful connections with books that are old and outdated and most cannot afford to purchase new books. As most of us know, it is challenging to find literature that appeal to both male and female students. Therefore, I was surprised to learn that my boys and girls found a book that they both want to read. The wonders that this book would take them through would help them to forget for just a little while about their difficult lives. My students are all striving to get their hands on a copy of The Boy in The Striped Pajamas. Picture a classroom where every student is engaged in a reading and enjoying it at the same time. Just one new book per student, can make a world of a difference.
My Project
The students have approached me about wanting to read the book. They are often unmotivated with traditional reading. Engaging middle school students can be very tough; if they had the opportunity to read this piece of literature they would have the opportunity to be more optimistic about reading.
Please help to make a difference in these children’s lives.
It would be wonderful if they had the opportunity to experience literacy in a way that is enjoyable. They can learn that reading is not only an obligation. They would be very grateful. When we read together it truly is a beautiful experience where we get to share experiences and learn from the character's experiences, it's an activity that could transform their lives.
