Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school has over 75% of its student population coming from low-income families.
Students love being able to compete in rock climbing as they develop their skills.
Through their interactions with others in the Outdoor Adventure Club, students are gaining the social skills needed to get along with others from various backgrounds and skill sets. Students support and challenge each other as they develop their skills of rock climbing. Friendly competition is encouraged in order to help motivate the continuous growth of the student. Students choose to compete with themselves and/or others while maintaining humility and good sportsmanship.
Maintaining their buy-in and interest in physical fitness is vital to increase their health and wellness and in helping them make good choices in the future. Rock climbing has shown to be an activity that increases muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.
My Outdoor Adventure Club members come from households with parents or guardians working numerous jobs. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and have varied personalities. Students range from ninth grade to twelfth grade and excel at many subjects. They are funny, creative, and competitive. Students participate in after-school and weekend activities that bring them together to celebrate their differences.
My Project
As students increase their skill level on our inside climbing wall, many choose to challenge themselves with longer routes that can only be found outside.
Donations will be used to purchase various sized Rock Climbing Helmets in order to help my students challenge themselves.
Having certified safety helmets will enable my club members to climb outside on local climbing routes with a sense of ease knowing their heads will be protected.
The increased safety will provide confidence in my students, enabling them to challenge themselves, and allowing them to acquire the skills necessary to compete in local climbing competitions.
Students will be able to train for competitions on various cliffs, in order to offer them a variety of difficulty and terrain.
