This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I get to teach a group of amazingly talented 8th graders in my advanced art class for the entire school year. Many of them will go on to high school and continue their art education. But so far this year, they have not had the chance to paint on canvases.

I want to give them the best materials for the lessons they are most looking forward to.

They will paint two projects at the end of the year. First, they will paint fun and colorful pop art self portraits. Then in their final artwork, they get to really showcase their skills by recreating a famous painting but adding their own pop culture spin to it. Think Tik Tok meets Michelangelo. Rick and Morty meets Da Vinci. Crocs meet Andy Warhol. (They all love to wear Crocs!)

They are all artists already. But they deserve the best. There's something about painting on canvas instead of paper that makes it feel even more special
