This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach K-2nd grade students in Nashville, TN. My students come from low socioeconomic homes, and the majority live in poverty-stricken neighborhoods. They love school and are thankful to be able to come to a place where they feel safe and know that they are loved. They come to school with huge smiles and are ready to be a part of their future.
My students are bright and often are overlooked because of their neighborhood or community.
Our school is a Title I public charter school, and funding is limited, especially for academic extras. Our students are eager to use their skills and show the world that they have talent. Unfortunately, this is hard when you are worried about having support. We are limited to sponsoring items due to funding.
We have dedicated students who work hard, but there are no means of supporting their creativity. Our students deserve to have every advantage to compete in this ever-changing, global economy.
My Project
We are learning about self-love and appreciation for our uniqueness. My students are young and I want them to recognize how beautiful they are. What better way than with self-portraits.
Help me give my students canvas boards to draw and paint beautiful self portraits of themselves.
I want my students to be able to look at themselves and know that they are unique and wonderful. I want them to understand that they should love themselves just the way they are and that I love them for their unique and wonderful personalities.
