My students face many challenges each day. We are a low income, high poverty Title I elementary school. This school year, we will be at maximum capacity for students. It is a wonderful feeling to know that the community knows that their children will receive a quality education as our school of choice seats are all filled.
We are a racially diverse population, and we have many students who are immigrants from other countries.
Additionally, we serve military students. We strive to be welcoming and supportive to our students, their families, and the community.
My Project
Many of my students have never painted before coming to school. While we love to paint on paper, as my students age and mature in their art, they need new challenges. We have painted on cardboard and poster board, but many of my students want to paint on canvas. Canvas and canvas panels are quite expensive and are even more difficult to come by for a Title I school. Having these canvas and canvas panels donated to my students would mean that they can grow artistically from only painting on paper to painting like one of the great artists that we study such as Vincent van Gogh or Leonardo da Vinci.
My younger students love to paint and see how colors mix.
We would love to be able to paint on paper specifically designed for painting. Many times my pre-k, kindergarten and special needs students use too much paint or too much water and their paper becomes saturated. Paper that is designed to be painted on stands up to the overuse of paint or water better than printer paper.
Overall, all of my students will benefit from the canvas, canvas panels and painting paper since the younger students will see what they can look forward to and all of my students can use the painting paper in preparation to use and design their canvas paintings.
