My students are growing as readers each day. They are quickly reading their way through our classroom library. My second graders are getting interested in following popular series and need more options.
I am fortunate to have 21 amazing second grade students.
My students are readers! They love to dive into a good book and their stamina for independent reading has increased dramatically. They frequently beg for independent reading time to last longer so they can get further into their books. As my students progress, they are getting into some higher level texts, including some very popular series books.
My Project
Expanding our chapter book library will allow my students to have more options. My students need 105 new series books to read during independent reading time. My students go "book shopping" each week and frequently look for the next book in the series they are currently reading. While we have quite a few books, many were purchased second hand from yard sales or left by the previous teacher. Series have developed further since then and my students are eagerly awaiting the next story in their favorite character's life.
Many of my students have the potential to leave second grade reading like fourth graders.
If they can fall in love with reading by really connecting to their favorite characters, they will become lifetime readers. For students that are struggling to become confident readers, a love for their first series can change everything. Please help my students to never want to put their books down!
