Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
You can find our school in the beating heart of Chicago and a short distance from downtown. Our school is a Title I school in where all students get free or reduced-price lunch. 91% of our students come from low income households. Ethnic groups include 12.2% Black, 80% Hispanic, 3.9% White, and 3.9% Other. 48% of students are categorized as English Learners. 34% of students are Diverse Learners.
Our school a second home to many of our unique students who have strong community roots.
Many students are second generation students whose parents also attended the school. If you are at our school you can count on having a second family support system.
My Project
As the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade math teacher I plan on making video lessons that my students can watch while we are conducting e-learning. My school is 91% low income and many of my students do not have internet or a device to access materials on. Many rely on a parents cell phone. I thought that by making short video lessons they can watch them on a parents phone and then continue the work in their math book.
I am missing my students and concerned about what they might miss out on for the remainder of the school year without us being together.
It gives me comfort knowing that I can provide them with video lessons and print out and deliver materials to those who might need them.
