Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse kids from different countries in Latin America. Our school is located in a low-income area in Texas, and over 90% of the school's population is economically disadvantaged. My students are all bilingual students who are still recovering from the devastation that was caused earlier last year by Hurricane Harvey. Not many of them were directly affected by the hurricane, but a few students did experience flooding and were forced to move to a different apartment. Because of the trauma they have experienced, I want to create an environment where they feel safe. I want them to look forward to coming to school and to feel completely engaged in all the learning activities.
My Project
My unique students need differentiated instruction. The activities chosen are not only based on curriculum, but on student interest and active learning. The Lakeshore number rockets will allow students to practice counting and number recognition skills as my students do all of this through play. Students will benefit from recognizing numbers and quantities.
My students are eager to explore and learn in different and special ways.
At this age students are still adjusting and exploring their fine motor skills but at the same time they are learning about numbers and colors. With the magnetic color and number maze students will be able to explore and learn. Each item has a purpose that will provide my students to learn how to count, identify number quantities and explore color recognition. Each item allows them to use their fine motor skills and learn all as they play. My goal is to interest students to learn in a fun way.
