My Students

My classroom is full of active five-year-old students who are excited to be at school. They are beginning their first school and classroom experience when they walk through my door.

My class consists of students who are Vietnamese, African-American, Hispanic, and Caucasian.

Many of the students are English Language Learners. The majority of our school's students are from a low socioeconomic neighborhood, and they have been limited in their exposure to many things. I am thrilled to be their kindergarten teacher and to be able to provide them many opportunities they haven't yet been afforded.

My Project

Each day we start our morning with a book. I like to start off the day with a lighthearted, silly, funny, or caring book. If we start our day with these types of stories we are more inclined to display the same type of behavior and attitude.

My students love to be read to and they love to be silly, so what better than a lighthearted read to start the day!

Not only do we start our day this way, but I seek every opportunity throughout the day to read aloud to them. I always enjoy reading to them, but reading them a story they have never heard before is the best. If this project is to get funded, it would allow me the opportunity to do this.
