Can't Get Enough Information about Science and Animals!

My students need News Science Readers to improve their reading skills and at the same time enhance their knowledge of science and animals. The reusable pockets will protect the readers when the students take them home.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am very proud of all the success and accomplishments that my students have had this school year! They started the year as non readers and by mid-year 70% of them became fluent readers and writers.

Coming to school everyday on time to learn is not an easy task for some of my students, but regardless of their family situation, they are coming to school everyday eager to learn and have new experiences.

Be respectful, Be responsible, and Be safe are behaviors that we practice everyday in order to prepare and in the future become responsible and productive citizens in our society.

Sadly, our school does not have the budget or resources necessary to provide my students with more educational experiences in the classroom. Our school is a tittle 1 school. We have 100% free lunch participation. Our computer lab. needs to be updated and serviced. We don't have functional printers. The one that all teacher share is only black and white because the school can not afford color ink.

Our classroom PE equipment is very limited. If a sock ball or kickball goes flat it is hard to replace.

Despite of these, we are happily learning!

My Project

My students started the school year not being able to read basic grade level materials. With lots of hard work and dedication, they have made great progress. Now days, they are able to read, but they still need to improve their reading fluency.

Reading motivation is very important for students and when the students have access to exciting materials and interesting topics magic can happen!

Many times I ask my students to practice their reading at home for at least 20 minutes everyday. Most of the time they don't do it. One of the reasons is because they don't have access to books or other reading materials. The New Science Readers will solve that problem. My students will be able to take home the readers well protected in the pockets and practice their reading. I can't wait to see the excitement in their faces when I give them the readers to take home and then retell to the class and write about their new learnings in their journals.
