Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a fourth-grade teacher at an amazing elementary school in Clearwater, Florida. My fourth graders attend a Title I, high-poverty, inner-city school where all students receive free breakfast, lunch and dinner. My students are very diverse and many of them are learning English as a second language. Myself and the rest of the dedicated staff work hard to foster a loving, safe environment where our students are encouraged to work hard every day. Please consider donating to my classroom!
My Project
My students and I recently started trying out a few simple flexible seating options and they have really been the match that sparked a fire in my students. As of now, our flexible seating options are limited so not every student is getting to utilize them all day everyday. I have seen the difference in my classroom since introducing some seating options to my kids, and I would love to provide all of them an opportunity to always be comfortable while in my classroom. I take pride in knowing that my classroom is somewhere my students WANT to be, and strongly believe that flexible seating options are the reason for that.
We currently use our flexible seating options during independent reading and independent work activities.
The flexible seating has become an incentive for quality work and purposeful reading from my students. I hope to eventually have a fully-functioning flexible-seating classroom so these incentives become the norm, and my students can comfortably produce quality work all the time.
