My Students
I teach mixed classes consisting of 11th and 12th graders.
My students show promise through their pain.
All come from a poverty level and very few have biological parents that live with them. These students are exposed to violence on a regular basis, some carry items that remind them of loss loved ones and friends that have gone all too soon. Some students are in trouble with the law as they carry electronic tagging instruments on their ankles. One half of my students are English as a Second Language learners and about 5 percent are homeless.
My students understand that no matter what painful experience they are going through, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. They also understand that these experiences are meant to teach them.
My Project
As it turns out, just a little bit of sugar may go a long way in helping students with engagement, creativity, and focus to complete classroom assignments. Recent studies show that Sugar Can Enhance Alertness.
Candy will serve as motivation for students to continue to do well, stay focused, and reap the reward for "a job well done".
The candy that I am requesting will serve as a motivational tool and reward for students when they earn it whether through, classroom contests, classroom participation, enthusiasm, work ethic, and the like.
