Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, a lot of our kids are prison families (meaning one or both parents are in prison). They tell me on a daily basis that they don't have food to eat or a nice comfortable bed or clean clothes to wear to school that day. Their parents are not home to take care of them. My kids do not miss a day of school, because they are safe at school, and I want to provide the best education that I can to the kiddos.
I have three kids in my class that just came from Mexico, they do not speak English and I need to be able to communicate with them.
My Project
All three kids just arrived in the United States!
Not only are they adjusting to everyday life, but they are thrown into an all English classroom.
I would love to see and hear these kids speaking some English by the end of the year. With the help of the translator I know we could get that accomplished. These three can not read or write in English or Spanish, with the help of the translator they will be able to read and understand. Can you imagine being fully immersed in an English speaking classroom, how scary!! I appreciate you taking the time to read about my project!!
