I teach eighteen 1st and 2nd graders with a variety of learning styles. Our school is a small Title I school located in rural North Carolina. Many of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Several of my learners have limited access to a large variety of literature. However, all of my students are scholars eager to learn and grow! They already have a love of reading, math, and writing. It would be a great opportunity to provide my learners with additional books to enhance their experiences while inside the classroom.
The Can You Survive series will enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. This collection of books allows the reader to be in the "driver's seat" as they choose their own adventure and outcomes. All of these titles have been chosen with my curious students in mind. I know my students and their interests well. This collection will give my students a new genre of literature to love.
My students will be able to enjoy these titles read aloud, with a partner, or they can read independently!
When my students read these texts, they will be able to use problem and solution skills to determine IF they survive.
