Our elementary is a Title I school near two large military bases. A large percentage of our students have active duty military parents. As a military spouse with children myself, I fully understand that these students need amazing experiences to take with them throughout their lives. Whether my students have been here their entire elementary life or just for a couple of years, in the music room, I ensure every child is involved in the music-making process.
Through playing instruments, moving, and creating, students are able to not only make music but they are able to experience music on a deeper level.
Individually my students are unique and wonderful, but when they are all collaborating together they make beautiful music that layers and flows as if one.
Funding in my county is not always available to support the arts. Our students deserve a quality music education that they can carry with them no matter where they go.
My Project
My students deserve to hear and make beautiful music on real instruments! Every child will have the opportunity to use this instrument in the music room as we continue to build a full ensemble of Orff instruments to go along with it.
Our music room primarily has very cheap instruments that you would find at a dollar store and they quickly break over time.
They also do not make a good vibration or have a pleasing sound quality in which to teach the science of how sound works.
Some children learn music better through the use of instruments, as not all students enjoy singing and it takes a different skill set to be able to play instruments. Orff instruments help build teamwork skills as well as fine motor skills and many more valuable lessons beyond that.
Ultimately, this glockenspiel will help us build the music program and inspire a lifelong love of music in my students!
Thank you for considering my project, and your support of educators!
