My Students

Have you seen the movie, Avatar? Did you ever wonder who created those images, and why and how? My students need to learn how to research individual artists and understand their amazing accomplishments. Art literature would supply the needed resources to expand their knowledge.

My students are located in an urban school district in southwest Ohio.

They are bright, energetic children that sometimes have a difficult time finding ways to channel their abilities. My students search for various avenues of expression, whether through their choice of dress, hairstyles or jewelry. They express substantial interest in current artistic trends, but we have minimal resources available to investigate the creators of these trends.

My Project

Introducing scholastic art magazine subscriptions will help students understand the impact of visual art on the history, culture and society from which it emanates. They will understand the cultural, social and political forces that, in turn, shape visual art communication and expression. Students will identify the significant contributions of visual artists to cultural heritage. They will analyze the historical, cultural, social and political contexts that influence the function and role of visual art in the lives of all people.

Scholastic art magazines will enable my students to research culturally or historically significant works of art and discuss their roles in society, history, culture and politics.

The magazines could inspire them to cultivate similar artistic talents found in their research, so that they too may positively influence the world.
