This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a neighborhood Title I school. Most students walk or are transported to school by their parents. Many have not had the experiences you would expect a 5 to 7 year old to have, such as been to the zoo, gone to a movie theater, or seen a live show. Some students struggle to make it to school every day. Students may be academically talented or have deficits in learning. But no matter what they face, I try to make coming to school a positive and enriching experience.
My teaching supplies depend on what is donated by families that may not even be able to afford to buy those supplies so often most of my supplies come from my own pocket or local donations.
My Project
Through wonderful donors like you, I have been able to give my students leveled readers to help them become awesome readers.
What are leveled readers- they are books based on a student's ability to decode and knowledge of sight words.
These books are not too easy and not too hard; they are "just right". I am able to both print and give my students online access to these books with Raz-plus, the combination of these products. I also use this to work with students in small groups to advance their reading comprehension and vocabulary. This subscription provides me with these materials and much more.
