My students are optimistic, diverse, and simply amazing. I teach in a low income area and many of our students come from difficult backgrounds. They are very resilient and genuinely love to learn whether we are doing a hands-on math lesson or simply enjoying a class read aloud. They are constantly questioning and wanting to experience every aspect of the world around them.
Our school has roughly 650 kids with more than half of them receiving free or reduced lunch.
We have many split classrooms that help us accommodate the academic needs of our students and I have the opportunity to teach a 1st/2nd grade combo class this year. We have a supportive volunteer system, but they are often not able to donate or be involved in certain activities due to cost. It is my goal to make sure my current students as well as future ones have every opportunity possible available to them and I'm hopeful that the wonderful donors here will be able to help!
My Project
Managing knotted cords and fixing uncomfortable ear pieces are two of the most difficult parts of using computers with young students. Having a class set of headphones that are sturdy, colorful, wireless, and easy to connect would be a life changing experience in a classroom full of anxious kids who are often literally too tangled up to focus on learning with technology.
Wireless headphones that are easy to use and store would truly help maximize learning time as students explore dozens of programs on computers and Chromebooks.
It would be a huge relief and a giant time saver to have less of a cord mess while also helping students to start working in a more timely manner. Students could spend less time getting their headphones set up and untangled and more time exploring interactive Nearpod lessons or investigating a Mystery Science lesson. Often times, young students get so bogged down by simple organizational tasks like headphone storage. Having these durable, wireless headphones for each one of my students would allow us to get through more content, information, and fun in a shorter amount of time!
