How do you feel when you hear music? It depends greatly on the type of music. That is very much the same with artwork. The use of the elements of art can be used on a canvas very much like the notes and rhythm are played on an instrument. The students will create art inspired by music.
We are a special act school.
Many of our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and have a variety of special needs. Some students have mental disabilities. Some have special physical needs. We have emotionally and behaviorally challenged students as well. Our students come from the five boroughs of New York to the eastern end of Long Island. They come from diverse backgrounds.
My Project
What would be considered an easy day to a non special needs student is difficult for ours. In the art room while teaching them about artists and the elements and principles of design I like to create a positive and non stressful atmosphere for them. One of my classes painted to music last year and the outcome was great. The music had a soothing effect one that I would love to repeat as often as possible. The speakers will allow me to play music that they can work to more often as well as provide sound when I show video clips. The headphones will provide students personal choice of music when we are making a Kandinsky type project.
This project is important because it will provide the students an opportunity to experience the integration of music and art.
They will learn how the use of the elements of art to effect our mood and atmosphere.
