Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a Title I school in a blue collar area of Northern California. 81% of our kids qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
I have a very enthusiastic bunch of kids who love music.
They are eager to learn. They stay after school and come in during lunchtime to practice and learn new instruments. We start band in 6th grade while surrounding school districts start in 3rd, 4th or 5th grade.
Only one of my feeder elementary schools has general music so the majority of kids come to me with no musical background. My kids are at a disadvantage by starting behind their peers. They also don't have the same opportunities, like kids in surrounding school districts, to take private lessons. Being able to provide instruments and supplies to more students will help them catch up to their peers since they will have to compete with these kids for honor bands and scholarships.
My Project
Having this ION portable PA system and mic will make a huge difference in my classes, especially my choir class. We don't have a full time accompanist so being able to have a recording to sing with during rehearsals will help us improve quickly. This is really important when we are rehearsing for a concert in the performance venue like the cafeteria, gym or outside.
It will also help in evaluating our progress as we get ready for our performances.
I record the classes on my phone but it isn't loud enough for them to hear very well. This PA system has blue tooth capabilities which will allow me to instantly play back what they just played so they can evaluate who they did.
