My Students

My classroom is a self-contained special education classroom in a NYC public school. My class contains five 2nd graders and five 3rd graders who all possess IEPs.

My students range in disabilities.

We have several autistic students and some diagnosed with ADHD and some who are classified as learning disabled. My students are warm and friendly children who enjoy school. My students are extremely active and need to have as little downtime as possible.

My Project

All of my students are reading lower than their expected reading levels. They are assigned to read every night but I can't check how well they are doing this from home. I would like to purchase an online program that would allow my students to read books through the online program. To do this, my students need headphones with microphones in order to accomplish this task. I am requesting 10 headphones with microphones.

When my students start reading online, they will move ahead to other books.

When they do this, they will gain confidence in reading. They will be eager to read. This eagerness should help them improve their reading levels. If we can boost their reading levels, other subjects hopefully won't be so daunting.
