My students live in a suburban farming community in California. Our school serves a diverse community of kindergarten through fifth grade students. I have a class full of energetic and capable second graders. They are full of wonder and take great joy in learning. This is the year that they transition from learning to read and really begin reading to learn. I look forward to working with them this year and helping them realize their amazing potential. I am excited to see what the future holds for them.
My Project
Being able to communicate is an important part of life. Every day I strive to teach my students to communicate their thoughts and ideas in meaningful ways. We use technology to help us research, read, speak and write. One tool that we use almost daily is an online digital portfolio called Seesaw. This amazing program allows students to document their learning. We use it to explain our thinking and share our ideas with peers, teachers and loved ones. We use our Chromebooks and iPads to record their ideas using photos, video, drawing, and writing.
As we use these online tools more and more, we have struggled with some of the features when using our Chromebooks.
The styluses and mice will allow us to better use the drawing features of the program by giving the students greater control. The headphones and microphones will allow us to better capture student voices and limit background noise as they communicate their thinking. These communication tools will be used daily in our classroom.
