This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work for a K-6th grade elementary Title I school where the majority of the students qualify for 100% free/reduce-price lunches. My students live in a rural community and most come from low income families. They overcome obstacles daily!

Even with the learning disparities and inequalities, they are eager to learn and try their best daily.

They are proud to be bilingual! They work very hard and are learning to speak, read, and write in English and Spanish simultaneously. I am truly proud to teach these amazing group of students!

My Project

A voice amplifier would be an amazing addition to my classroom! The current pandemic has changed so much about the way we teach. One thing that has been specifically difficult for my students and I, is having to wear a mask daily throughout the school day.

My voice has especially suffered causing me to strain my vocal cords and have a cough for over 6 weeks.

Reading to the students is especially difficult, as it is a struggle to add much emotion/enunciation when the students can barely hear me, causing some students to lose interest.

The addition of a voice amplifier in my classroom, would allow me to speak in a normal voice through the mask, without having to elevate my voice so that they can hear me. With classroom sizes not reducing, being able to project my voice to the back of the class while wearing a thick mask is essential so that all students can hear what is being taught.

Additionally, because of the pandemic and not always being able to be next to students, the HDMI converter helps me with my additional monitor when I need to oversee my student’s online activities.
