Our school strives to find the leader in all students. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation. The students I work with strive for excellence. They all inherently care about one another and continually make an effort to improve in all aspects.
I teach EL(English learner) students; they are a group of amazing, funny, hard-working students.
These kids inspire me every day! They are full of life, they are caring, they are supportive, and they are a joy to work with and are eager to learn every day. My students come from all different backgrounds and come into school with very few experiences. I teach at a Title funded I school in Georgia. These students genuinely love learning. To give you an idea of the range of abilities, we have students who are non-readers in their native language, students who are learning a third language (English), to students who can read at a high school level in their native language.
The use of headsets is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially during System 44 and Read 180 workshops. Using the workshop model in System 44 and Read 180, one of the students' stations is logging into the computer and working through the program. In both System 44 and Read 180 the students need to use the microphone to record themselves reading and/or retelling. They also use the headset to listen since having all students listening to the audio and/or speaking at the same time would create a view loud classroom. This will help eliminate the problem of students asking for headsets since the ones they have are not working or forgetting them at home and interrupting my small group when someone is using the extra set I have. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues and they miss important instruction from either myself or the program. By having headsets with a microphone, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning!
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their materials are going to work or not. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
