Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am very fortunate to have such a special group of students! They come from diverse backgrounds, low-income families, and very challenging home environments/situations. No matter the individual situation, they come eager to learn every day.
Many of my students see our school as their sanctuary where they feel safe and away from their home circumstances.
Some students feel more comfortable in school since many of their homes do not have air-conditioning or even running water or light.
School supply lists are provided to parents at the beginning of the year, however, due to poverty in the area, unemployment and homelessness, and now COVID to name a few, that limits families their ability to contribute towards the essentials for their children's education.
My Project
Many of my students were not able to supply their own headphones. The headphones at the school are to be used during testing.
The headphones will help the students during blending learning lessons throughout the year as the headphones are more durable than many of the earphones or earbuds their parents are able to afford.
During small groups/centers, students may block some of the distractions/background noise with the use of headphones, while they use their school software or they work independently, project during class, or when they are working on their online assignments at home.
