Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am the general education teacher of twenty-five amazing 5th graders who are our future nurses, attorneys, teachers, doctors, engineers, and leaders of our great nation.
Our students are continuously looking forward to applying what they learned in class to real life situations; they need to have access and use all possible resources to fulfill these experiences.
These young boys and girls come from different backgrounds that make them unique in their own ways. Some of them speak French; some of them speak Spanish. Some of them love "futbol", while others play baseball. Some students are being raised by their fathers, while others by their grandmothers. However, they are all eager to learn and collaborate with each other. They enjoy their core subject areas, such as math, reading, social studies and science. These twenty-five boys and girls, our students, also understand the importance of having a healthy mind and body. In the classroom, at times, we take a few minutes to meditate. Outside the classroom, in our physical education block, we practice yoga. ... and they love it!
My Project
Our students are going through the great opportunity that distance learning offers. Our school district has been able to provide laptops to them; however, some built-in microphones are not working properly.
Microphones will give our students the opportunity to voice their interests, opinions, questions, or ideas in our daily conversations and discussions.
Also, some ESE students or English Language Learners might not be able to express themselves through writing as well as they can through speech.
5th Grade students have value in their voice, and it is our responsibility to listen.
