Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a diverse community of learners that are learning to collaborate as musicians in an urban environment. We are fortunate to be in a school that supports the arts as part of a balanced curriculum. However, many of my students come from low income families and purchasing instruments for a student may not be on their highest priority.
My students love to create, dance, and sing.
They enjoy moving and responding to music in their own unique ways. Given the tools they need, they will become audience members, performers, and composers.
My Project
My students are energetic learners who need hands-on learning to better process the world around them. Through the generosity of others, we have been able to open our first keyboard lab during class time. It unfortunately can become very loud in our classroom during this time.
The issue this presents is that loud volumes for extended periods of time can damage our hearing.
Giving my students access to headphones will help to turn down the volume in our room and allow my students to work at a safe volume. This promotes healthy listening and will allow my students to work at a volume appropriate for them without having to worry about damaging their hearing.
