Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school with a strong desire to learn and to be the best that they can be. Our school is a high poverty school in an urban district in Rhode Island. Many of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Our school has an increasing population of students who receive English as a Second Language services. All of my students are English Learners. My students have proficiency levels that range from students who are new to the United States to students who are ready to exit the English as a Second Language program.

Some of the most rewarding moments of my day is when a student (new to our country) is finally able to ask for a pencil, to say good morning to me, or to hold a short conversation with another student or group of students.

In order for this to happen, we need to have experiences that can give them the opportunity to be successful English Language Learners.

My Project

Every day, I service students at varying levels of English proficiency. Our goal is to become proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Headphones are an important part of reaching our goal. The headphones will allow my students to listen to stories and then be able to orally respond to prompts using the attached microphones. In addition, they will help with keeping everyone focused and on track.

Integrating technology into the classroom is an effective way to connect with students of all learning styles.

In order to do this, we need a way to keep our materials safe and ready . We are very fortunate that we have iPads for our use. Sometimes little hands are not steady so we need cases to keep them safe. We also need a charging station so that the iPads are ready to go on a moment's notice. These materials will help us reach our goal of being proficient English Learners.
