Students best learn science, technology, engineering, art, and math by doing it.
My students come from backgrounds that are underrepresented in STEM fields.
They are predominately minority students that receive free or reduced price lunches. They are full of curiosity and wonder, and are naturally drawn to science and engineering because they can solve relevant problems by discussion, argumentation, and analysis. They also love working with their hands to create models and prototypes. The hands-on nature of STEM helps provide context for their learning.
My Project
My students use laptops just about everyday to complete their work in my technology class. Sometimes they are designing an object that will be 3D printed, and are stuck having to navigate their work-space using just the tracker pad of their laptop. Sometimes they need to watch an instructional video at their own pace, and cannot hear it properly because of the sounds of the classroom.
I want my students to have the tools they need to be successful.
The mouse pads and mice will allow the kids to have precise control over their movements while they design in their autoCAD software. The headphones will allow the students to watch the tutorials they need to at the pace that they need to, without distraction.
