Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a public school in California with a large majority of students from a low socio-economic status who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Most of my students are second language learners and come from diverse families. I work with Pre-K students who are energetic, rambunctious, and eager to learn. They love to run, sing, dance, and role play. For the majority of my students, this is the first experience in a school setting. Many of my students have limited resources that may limit life experiences. Although I am unable to control the challenges they face at home, I can control the experiences during the school day. Unlike other preschools, ours is a full day session. Having a variety of inviting and interesting centers is a must. I want to inspire our youngest of learners and provide hands-on, meaningful learning experiences in a classroom they deserve.
My Project
Our school has set up a computer lab for students to use daily and has generously provided us with earplugs for our sessions. However, the earplugs are not suited for 4 year old children. Not only do my preschool children struggle to adjust them into their small ears, but they get tangled and the rubber buds keep falling off. As a result, their computer time is cut short. With too many rubber buds missing, our computer time can get quite noisy as students navigate and explore different educational games. The multipurpose headphones with volume control will eliminate all those distractions. The donations to this project will help improve my students' focus, attention, and overall computer lab experience.
